At our Open House celebration on May 31st, TVRH was proud to present to the Durham Fire Chief 30 sets of pet oxygen masks, more than enough to equip their 23 trucks. We would like to thank the Durham veterinary community for helping us in this fund raising project, as well as all of the generous donors who made this happen.
"DURHAM — Helen Kalevas nearly lost her best friend to a snake bite reciently, but the Jack Russell Terrier pulled through.
Her 10-pound dog, Opal, was attacked May 25 by a copperhead outside her home in rural Orange County, and spent four days at Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital on Morreene Road in Durham. Anti-venom and blood transfusions saved her, but at a cost of $4,000 and sleepless nights.
“My significant other had the dog with him off-leash and was watching her,” Kalevas said. “All of a sudden, she jumped and yelped, and he saw her sitting down with fang marks on her leg.”

We've partnered with Bayou Rescue to help raise money to supply every emergency truck in Durham County with life saving oxygen masks specifically made for pets. Fire fighters and first responders are often the only hope for pets trapped in house fires. Your donation will be used to purchase a set of masks designed to fit everything from kittens to Great Danes, one set for each truck. When youvisit your primary care veterinarian, look for our display and donation jar.
Two of TVRH's doctors and our Facilities Manager participated in The Conservators' Center's, The Wild Stampede Mud Run. Dr. Grafinger and Dr. Baez, our two surgeons and Greyson our "Mr. Fix-it" headed out and risked life and limb to help raise money for the residents of the center.
